Public Education
Public education is the foundation of American democracy. Education not only creates dreams. It makes them possible. I am outraged by the decades-long assault on public education in Arizona, and I am committed to putting an end to it.
Before I moved to Arizona, I spearheaded the Read California campaign to promote reading among youth.
I partnered with student advisory committees and the Department of Education to boost literacy rates and encourage learning. As a presidential appointee to the Department of Labor, I built alliances between industry leaders, labor unions, and vocational programs to train the next generation of skilled American workers.
When elected, I will fully fund public education for every student and every neighborhood school in every community in the state. I will do everything in my power to end the abuses of the school voucher program and bring fairness, accountability, and transparency back to Arizona education. This commitment extends to our great public colleges and universities. The Arizona Constitution promises that higher education should be “as free as possible,” yet students are still graduating with mountains of unforgivable debt. I will fight to make that constitutional promise a reality.
