Affordable Living

All Arizonans deserve safe, affordable housing. It is a basic human need.

However, the challenge we face is the dramatic increase in the cost of living across the nation, including right here in Arizona. Recently, our state has entered the ranks of the top 10 most expensive states for home purchases. This issue is further compounded by corporations, which have started competing with families, purchasing three out of every ten homes on the market in 2023. This trend exacerbates an already challenging situation, making it increasingly difficult for families to afford homeownership while rents have soared to unprecedented levels.

It is evident that many families are being priced out of the housing market, and renters are struggling with escalating rental costs. To address these pressing issues, we must work collaboratively with other legislators, Governor Hobbs, and local government, by coming together and implementing thoughtful policies, we can build a more equitable and sustainable housing market that meets the needs of all Arizonans.

Our goal should be to ensure that first-time homebuyers have the opportunity to achieve homeownership, renters are protected from unchecked rent increases, and the homeless receive comprehensive support and services.
